General Travel Tips

  • Prepare in advance by looking at pictures, reading stories or watching movies.
  • Look at interactive websites. We use Google street view so my son gets an idea of where we are going
  • Take a good back pack. I place a small purse in it as well. This allows me to have everything I may need and still have my hands free.
  • Look over maps, guide books, seating charts, etc before you go .
  • Bring a change of clothes, just in case.
  • Bring toys. We take a Nintendo DS, an MP3 player, some cars, stuffed animal and a few fidget toys.
  • Go over ground rules and expectations as they may change
  • Be prepared for your child’s sensory needs. For us, this means always having ear plugs, a small travel blanket, hat and sunglasses.
  • Fight temptation before it starts. Bring some favorite snacks and drinks
  • Plan your trip around all members. Take into consideration everyone’s wants, needs and limits.
