Tampa Fire Museum

Tampa Fire Museum

Finding enriching and cultural activities for a child with autism can be difficult at times. I try to focus on adventures he will be interested in, but expand his horizons at the same time.  This time we went to the Tampa Fire Museum

The museum is in an old brick fire station in downtown Tampa. There is limited parking on the side which is great since we did not have to walk by skyscrapers.  The museum is free and only asks for donations.

When we went we were the only visitors. There was one guide, who was very helpful and great with my son. He answered all his questions and was patient with him.

Since we had the museum to ourselves he explored at his pace and just wandered around. He sat in a child size firetruck and had fun driving it. He looked at the exhibits and played a really great game. They had a painting of a house on the floor with doors, windows and furniture. You went into the house and someone threw in a fire and you had to escape safely. He loved this game and played for awhile.

We really enjoyed the Tampa Fire Museum. It is a work in progress, but still a great place to stop by and explore at your pace.

Have you been to a museum? If so, please share your experience and insight.
Have any questions, please ask and and we will be glad to answer them.
