Sea World

Sea World

Sea World seems to be our most frequent parks. It is in the heart of Orlando so it is easy for us to stop by while visiting other parks or doing other things in Orlando. This is also a park I know I can stop by at for a few hours if he is having a difficult day as it is more laid back.

When you enter Sea World make sure to get a guest assistance pass. Tell them your child has autism or is developmentally delayed and can not handle wait times. This pass is invaluable to make it through the day.

There is a dolphin feeding area in Key West, but before you see the big ones, I suggest seeing the babies at the dolphin nursery. You can send one person to the long line to get food, while you hang out at the nursery.

Many of the shows can be overwhelming as they are crowded and loud. My son loves the pet actor show called Pets Ahoy. It has some simple humor that most will understand and some more adult humor that goes over all the kids heads. It is a great show, but the theater does go dark for a few minutes. Also at the end of the show they allow the children to pet the dogs so in front of the stage can become quite crowded.

The other show he loves is Clyde and Seamore. I suggest getting to this show early. About 5 minutes before it starts a mime comes on stage and pokes fun of those walking in at that time. Some children may enjoy watching the mime, but if they came in later and were picked on, it may not go so well. The show is a funny show and is not loud and very kid friendly.

The Shamu show Believe is a nice show. The theater is the biggest in the park and the seats go up high. The show has a nice inspiring story. At the end it becomes very loud as the crowd chants and claps. I suggest lower seats on the end so that you can make a quick exit if need be.

Blue Horizons is an interesting show. There is a lot going on at one time so it can be overwhelming. Birds do fly over the audience and there are dancers bouncing high on bungees. The dancers are in costumes and some do look like odd birds.

One warning on the rides at Sea World. They all exit into gift shops so we just hurry through. Journey to Atlantis is a water ride and part roller coaster. It does not do any crazy loops, but is a short fast ride in the dark. Munchkin always says he is scared to go on it, but when he does, he loves it. He enjoys watching this ride from the base of the waterfall. He will wait there with an adult as everyone swaps off riding.

Kraken is a very loud roller coaster. He will not go anywhere near it in the park. It is loud, fast and fun, if you are into that kind of thing.

A new addition to the park is Shamu’s Harbor. It has a few childrens rides that can be a lot of fun. There is also a playground with nets, slides and tubes to climb. This is a great place to cool off as they also have a small water playground.

In the park he has two favorite places to retreat to. He loves the penguin exhibit. He is fascinated over penguins and it is a great place to sit and relax on a hot day. The manatee exhibit is another place you can relax and watch the animals in the cool air that is not crowded.
