MOSI - Tampa

MOSI - Tampa

We actually did not have plans to visit the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa. We went to Tampa to go to Adventure Island, but it rained most of the day. We split the day between MOSI and Adventure Island and it worked out quite well.

The main building at MOSI, Munchkin had almost no interest in. We went through the place fairly quickly and only stopped at a few exhibits. His favorite one was Disaster! We completed this building in under 30 minutes so I was worried MOSI would not take up enough of our day.

Afterwards we went to the new Kids in Charge exhibit. The first thing we saw was a an old trunk full of dress up clothes. He was ecstatic and tried a few outfits on. As we entered we saw a few signs basically stating that the kids were in charge (within reason) We were finally in his “place” and he was happy as could be.

He ran from exhibit to exhibit trying things out. He crawled through tunnels, laid on a bed of nails, played tubs of war and checkers on a giant border. He would wander off from me occasionally and explore on his own, but kept coming back to show me something. He felt very comfortable exploring in the huge room. Everything was at kid level and sensory friendly. One area would be calm with light colors and soft sounds and he could relax while another area would be louder, colorful and full of energy.

He spent hours exploring the Kids in Charge exhibit. He found a music area and he has in heaven. They had various interactive sound effects including tubes, lights, keyboards, speaker systems and drums. When the rain was gone he was still not ready to leave and is still asking for a bucket drum set.

This is definitely something we will go again and if we lived closer, we would become members.

Have you been to MOSI or another science museum?
If so, please share your experience and insight.
Have any questions, please ask and and we will be glad to answer them.
