First Camping Trip

First Camping Trip

This trip was from a few years ago, but I thought I would share. It was our first every camping trip.

We went to WP Franklin Park out in Alva. I chose a place that would have some light and was not heavily wooded. I wanted to experiment with camping, not immerse ourselves.

We set up camp on the edge of the Calossahatchee River. Munchkin helped set up the tent and had fun exploring it while I setup the rest of the campsite. For dinner we had hot dogs and chips with delicious watermelon for desert.

We tossed around the football and played some cards. Munchkin really enjoyed walking around the campsites. He stopped and talked with fellow campers and chirped at the birds. He watched the fisherman and enjoyed throwing rocks into the river.

Once it got dark, I lit a campfire and made some smores. This was the first time he had ever had smores. He loved the roasted marshmallows and chocolate. We made some hot chocolate and laid back and looked at the stars. When he got tired, we curled up in his tent and he fell asleep watching a movie on the laptop.

I then laid my sleeping bag out on the grass and stared at the starry night sky. It was a gorgeous dirty sky. The longer you stare into the blackness, the more stars you see, it actually seems that the stars come closer to you, almost close enough to touch. I saw two shooting stars during the night, I made one wish for Munchkin, and one wish for myself. As I drifted off to sleep, I watched the heat lightning dance across the sky.

In the morning, we packed up and got ready to go. Munchkin did not want to leave. He loved camping and wanted to stay another night. I convinced him to go and drove to a beach on the edge of the river. We played in the water for a few hours and made sand castles. We had a picnic lunch and headed home. I was really worried that his first camping trip would not go well, but he absolutely loved it and can’t wait to go again.

Have you gone camping? If so, please share your experience and insight.
Have any questions, please ask and and we will be glad to answer them.
